Career Research

Career Research explorations are designed to help you identify your interests and abilities.

The Secretary's Commission on Achieving Necessary Skills, SCANS skills, were established by the US Secretary of Labor. They identify skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, and organization.

You may want to examine your personal skills, interests, and abilities related to your current career choices.

Personal Education Plan (PEP)

The Personal Education Plan (PEP) is to help you plan the sequence of your classes through high school. It is a framework to help document your high school course work and your plans following graduation.

  • To complete this Grade 9 competency you must create or update your Personal Education Plan (PEP). If you have already created a PEP, go to the “File Management” section in your WOIS Portfolio and revise/update it. If you need to create one, click here.  Your PEP must be saved to the “File Management” section in your WOIS Portfolio as an ”Education Plan" type.

A resume is an itemized list of your qualifications, education, and experience that you may use when applying for a job or post-secondary training. There are many templates for resumes. • To complete this competency, you may upload your resume to your WOIS Portfolio. If you need to create one, click here.  Be sure to include your paid or unpaid work experiences, hobbies, clubs, sports, and educational information. Your resume must be saved to the “File Management” section in your WOIS Portfolio as a “Resume” type.
Letters of Recommendation

A Letter of Recommendation is a formal, typewritten letter written by an adult that addresses your personal qualities, accomplishments, education, volunteer and community experiences. These letters may come from teachers, counselors, coaches, employers or others who know you well. A Letter of Recommendation may be used by potential employers, colleges or training institutions. It is highly recommended that you have at least one uploaded to Portfolio.  Click here for a Letter of Recommendation Form.  As a student, you may print out this form, fill it in, and give it to the person who will be writing your letter.
