Grade 07
Grade 07 Introduction to Career Research Process Career Research includes explorations designed to identify your interests and abilities in order to help you focus on education and occupations that are right for you.
- To complete this competency, you will take the “ WOIS Career Interest Areas” questionnaire and create a list of Washington State schools where you could be trained for these careers.
Before you start this activity, make sure you have the WOIS Site Key which is available from your College Ed teacher. You also need to create a WOIS Portfolio which will be used to store your documents.
Grade 08
Career Research explorations are designed to help you identify your interests and abilities. You may want to repeat the WOIS Career Interest Activity as described in Grade 07 to see if your career interests have changed. This activity helps you identify your personal skills, interests, and abilities to help you focus on education and occupations that are right for you.
Grade 09
Career Research explorations are designed to help you identify your interests and abilities.
The Secretary's Commission on Achieving Necessary Skills, SCANS skills, were established by the US Secretary of Labor. They identify skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, and organization.
You may want to examine your personal skills, interests, and abilities related to your current career choices.
Grade 10
Career Research includes explorations designed to identify your interests and abilities in order to help you focus on education and occupations that are right for you.
- To complete this Career Research competency, you must save the WOIS bar graph to your WOIS Portfolio and list three careers and schools you are considering on your Personal Education Plan (PEP).
If you have previously created a PEP, you may download and revise it from your WOIS Portfolio. If you need to create one, click here. The revised/updated PEP must be saved to the “File Management” section of the WOIS Portfolio.

Grade 11
Career Research explorations are designed to help you identify your interests and abilities.

You should apply academic and career readiness skills in work-based learning situations such as internships, shadowing, mentoring and/or a graduation project.
Grade 12
Career Research explorations are designed to help you identify your interests and abilities. Submit an application for post secondary training or work.
